Our cure to back to school jitters:)

Parker has started every school year off with the "Back to school jitters."  I went to various sources to see how to ease kids' anxiety.  I found several ideas on Pinterest and went to work.  One idea I found was to have a back to school supplies scavenger hunt.  Parker had to read clues to find all of his school supplies.  He loved the idea and had fun searching for his treasures.  I watched the sales closely, and was able to get him a whole new wardrobe for a low cost (we love Kohls).  So here are a few pictures of the scavenger hunt.

Second. We attended unpack your backpack night at his school.  It was Luau themed....which included a delicious BBQ and dessert.  He was able to walk to his classroom (right next door to his first grade classroom) and meet his teacher.  She is so sweet.  She is new to second grade, but taught pre-k last year, so Parker remembered her.  He said she was really nice and doesn't think "she knows how to yell."

I think the kicker was seeing all of his old buddies.  They picked up right where they had left off 3 months ago...like they had just seen each other yesterday.  He joined in on the soccer game on the field too.

That night he said he was ready to go back to school...that he was not afraid any more:) yay!!!!
Third.  Back to school breakfast of choice....even though I knew what it was going to be, I asked him what he wanted me to make him for his first day back.  And not to my surprise...skinny pancakes.  This is a favorite amongst the B. side of the family....and it goes back several generations on my mom side.  I remember my Grandma making them for us when we visited.....and whatever a special occasion comes around or we have family visiting this is a must for breakfast.  We love them!!!!
After breakfast Parker I picked out his first day of school outfit and he "agreed" to smile for a few pictures.  It is really hard to get this kid in pictures lately....probably because he knows I post them for all to see....and gets embarrassed. So, when he agrees to take a couple.....I am on it.

And fourth.  Back to school treat for your teacher....nothing better than starting off the school year sucking up to your teacher.....he will need a few extra brownie points as he starts off the new year:)

Love you bud!!!! Here is to a great year in Second Grade!!!!!
