Last month Parker has not napped or if he did it was for an hour, if I was lucky. I tried a couple different things and talked to a couple of different people and most said, that maybe he was DONE with napping. OH, no he's not! I thought to myself. Something has to be done. Last week I thought, maybe if I put him to bed later....so, I tried it. 8:45 he was in bed and by 9 pm he was sound asleep. He still woke up at his normal time, usually between 6:45 and 7am. Instead of putting him down for a nap at his usual 1 pmish, I waited for an hour. Around 2:15 we head up stairs and he is out by 2:30. And SLEEPS for 2 hours...EVERY. TIME!! YEHAW!!
So, we have that figured out. Now my only other issue at this point is that s ince he has learned how to climb out of his crib we have to stand/sit in his room until he falls asleep or he FREAKS out!! SERIOUSLY!!
There is no lock on his door. I honestly do not mind sitting, but sometimes it takes him awhile to fall asleep. Sometimes a lot longer that 15 minutes. I thought about tying a rope from his door to the bathroom door, so he can not get out. It was so nice before when we put him in bed and he cried for 5 minutes and then fell asleep. Now it is a lot different.
The only concern I have about sitting by his bed is how long will I have to do it? Is it a phase? Now I have time but a year down the road I may not. Should I put a stop to it now, or is it OK? And locking the door? What have you tried? I am open to suggestions. My mom gave me one, but I am not sure I want to take those measures...yet!!

In my opinion, it's not a phase. Stop now, before he decides he wants you there forever! I have used the plastic door knobs from Walmart.
Ditto to the plastic nobs! We have tons of them. They are great! I think a little close time is ok before bed, but like the last commenter said, he will want you to be there in the room FOREVER is you start that! My sister in law was in there until her son was almost 4 years old. Don't go there!
Be strong Mommy!
PS What I meant was, cuddle before you lay him down. Then lay him down and get the heck out of there!
I also agree with the above on the plastic door knob covers- these are good for almost anything and not just keeping a child in the room.
BUT
I have found a method that works well and I have copied it from Supernanny. LOVE that show!
Anyway, here is the direct link for the bed/sleepy time routine.I think she is spot on and it might be exactly what you are looking for.
Good luck
